About

A polished brass cannon on a black iron carriage, framed by white stone columns.

I created Selene Associates in 2012 to position myself as an iOS developer. I had worked professionally on Mac Software from 1984 to 1997, then pursued personal projects on classic MacOS, then OS X, while I worked in Java to pay the bills. I re-entered the Mac software industry in 2007, and later tried to establish a toehold in iOS development, only to be advised that I “needed an app in the App Store” to be considered a candidate for iOS work. I started preparing an app I had been working on for my own use, an ocean tide prediction app, for release from the App Store. An LLC seemed like the thing to do at the time. I performed most of the work while riding a commuter boat between the South Shore of Massachusetts and Boston.

The advice was correct: In December 2012, coincidentally, I received an offer to work on iPad development within about 24 hours of my app being accepted for the App Store. I continued full-time employment on iOS apps until retiring in 2018 after moving to Florida.

I noodled around on personal projects for a few years until recently, when I discovered that AI tools could amplify my productivity, and I now have several projects in various stages of development.

The name “Selene Associates” is a homage to a classic science fiction novel, which seems particularly timely in the present circumstances.
